When engaging in home improvement projects, many homeowners may encounter the term “millwork,” but be unsure of its meaning. Simply put, millwork means construction elements created by a sawmill. The term encompasses items such as interior doors, doorframes, window casings, trims, and moldings. While some millwork can include some types of cabinetry, most carpentry and construction experts consider cabinetry as its own category.
In the past, most homes featured millwork finished with the same color. However, more homeowners are taking a mix-and-match approach with millwork. For example, they may select two different wood species or finishes or opt for some painted and some stained millwork in an area.
